CELEBRATE VASHAWN MITCHELL WEEKEND
HARVEY, ILLINOIS APRIL 29 & 30TH
MULTIPLE STELLAR AWARD WINNER & GRAMMY NOMINEE RETURNS HOME FOR SPECIAL STREET NAMING PRESENTATION AND LIVE RECORDING
Nashville, TN (April 19, 2012) – Multiple award winner, Grammy Award nominee, VaShawn Mitchell, to be honored in hometown of Harvey, IL next weekend. The popular praise & worship leader will be appreciated at a ‘Street Naming Presentation’ on Sunday, April 29th and then will perform at his live recording concert on Monday, April 30th.
Mitchell will be recognized by The Honorable Mayor Eric Kellogg, along with Alderman’s of the City Council and residents of the City of Harvey at a ‘Street Naming Presentation’ on Sunday. Taking place at 14615 South Winchester in Harvey at 4:00pm, the street will be officially re-named ‘VaShawn Mitchell Avenue.’ Family, friends and fans are all encouraged to join the celebration.
On Monday, Mitchell presents all new music at the special hometown concert, at his alma mater, Thornton High School, for a forthcoming release on EMI Gospel. The album tentatively titled ‘Created4This’ will include Mitchell’s signature brand of praise & worship music. Set to offer songs of empowerment and inspiration, Mitchell said he hopes to “build upon and continue with a sound that started people universally singing and worshipping regardless of denomination or background.” The anticipated live recording will feature special guest appearances by Israel Houghton, Kierra Sheard and more.

A Harvey native, Mitchell made a name for himself as a praise & worship leader; choir director under Bishop Larry Trotter at Sweet Holy Spirit Church and amassed national recognition with his 2010 release Triumphant. The album was heralded as the year’s best, and earned Mitchell six Stellar Awards, including trophies for Artist of the Year & Male Vocalist of the Year. The success was spurred on by his number 1 single, “Nobody Greater” which was the year’s biggest gospel song and spent several weeks at the top of the radio charts
