l though the 2017 Soul Train Awards is all about R&B and soul music, there was enough room for church to be held. Led by gospel maverick Kirk Franklin, R&B singers Daniel Caesar and Ledisi were joined by gospel singers Le’Andria Johnson and MAJOR. for an inspirational performance of “Wake Up Everybody” by Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes.
Backed by a gospel choir, the talented group of singers delivered a heartfelt performance. Ledisi kicked it off singing the urgent lyrics, “Wake up everybody, no more sleep in’ in bed / No more backward think in’ time for think in’ ahead.”
Caesar followed with the second verse with Le’Andria Johnson and MAJOR. closed out the rest of the song. Franklin, meanwhile, played the conductor, and steered this inspirational performance to its highest glory.
In the end, Kirk Franklin, Daniel Caesar, Ledisi, Le’Andria Johnson and MAJOR. did their thing and delivered a song with an important message that is very much needed for our current times. Can we get an “amen”?
