Washington DC will from March 19-21, 2015 witness the maiden edition of the African Fashion Week DC (AFWDC), a fashion event extravaganza that will feature African designers, vendors, entertainers, art and businesses parading and networking over a series of events and shows.

AFWDC’s founder & event producer, Joyce Donkor, says “we couldn’t be more excited about holding our first African Fashion Week here in DC and having the opportunity to provide a platform for all stake holders in the fashion, beauty, art and entertainment businesses representing all regions of Africa to showcase themselves”.

March 19, 2015 is the Kickoff Industry Networking Cocktail Happy Hour of the event that will feature an African art showcase by Chris Damola at the Kabin Lounge at Connecticut Avenue in Northwest of Washington’s District of Columbia (DC), while the venue for the runway fashion show and vendors will be the Washington Post Conference Center also in Northwest of DC in the USA.

The event organizers are on a mission to exhibit the beauty and intricate details of African fabric, textile and design and provide a platform for designers, entertainers and artists to present their respective materials to a more diverse and contemporary audience.

As an inaugural event, the AFWDC will also seek to create an avenue through which donations could be made to charitable causes as a way of giving back to the communities in which the respective participants live and do their businesses and beyond.

According to Joyce Donkor, registration is presently ongoing and all are welcomed to participate as designers, vendors, models, entertainers, buyers, sponsors, media or volunteers among others. More information about registration is available here http://www.afwdc.com/registration/.

Some of the already confirmed participants of this event are ASA (www.asabodyconditioning.com/ak/); a fitness and wellness company spearheaded by the official African Highlife dance fitness in Maryland, USA. Sandra Oforiwaah Takyi’s Ohemaa Couture; a designer and creative hair stylist (http://www.ohemaacouture.com). Designer Pazel and krantokolection of the USA respectively and Kirika Hair: a Platinum sponsor of the event among others.

Tickets to the event is available online at http://www.afwdc.com/tickets/ and feel free to contact the event organizers if you are interested in participating in any way for more information.

“This is going to be one of the premier events of the year, and the fact that it is our first makes it all the more important to attend, participate and show support.” says Joyce Donkor about the AFWDC. She continued to say that “Africa is rich in cultural diversity and our goal is to bring positive enriching experiences so guests can gain a better appreciation and love for the continent”.
