Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump asked for prayers from evangelical voters in Orlando on Thursday.
“Whatever you can do, I would appreciate. I say pray for me, I pray for you,” Trump said during a meeting with evangelical pastors.
“I figure it’s probably, may be, the only way I’m going to get to heaven,” the Republican nominee said.
Trump, a New York businessman, is seeking to reset his campaign after a series of confrontations that included a prolonged clash with the parents of a fallen Muslim American Army Captain, and a comment about the Second Amendment that sparked a torrent of criticism on social media that he was effectively calling for Clinton’s assassination. Meanwhile, Trump continues to point out the character, ethical and moral failings of the Clintons.
During the presentation on Thursday, Trump made a special effort to point out how the IRS 501(c)3 rules have silenced Christian voices in the US, and hew would work to rescind those policies.
